How do I…?
Step-by-step answers to the most common questions about MacroMotive. Can't find what you need? Contact support.
Logging meals
Back-date a meal to an earlier time
Log the meal as usual, then tap it to open it. On the Edit meal screen, tap the date and time pill near the top of the Calories card and pick the date and time you actually ate. Your changes save automatically.
This is handy for logging something after the fact, or for moving an entry to the right spot on your day's energy timeline.
Log a meal by photo
Open the Log tab and keep the mode on Food, then photograph your plate. MacroMotive detects the foods and estimates macros in a few seconds. Review the detected items, adjust anything that looks off, and save.
Scan a barcode
Open the Log tab and switch the mode to Barcode, then point the camera at a packaged product's barcode. MacroMotive looks up the exact product and fills in its nutrition. If the scanner can't read it, you can enter the barcode number manually.
For packaged food without a barcode, the Label mode reads macros straight off the Nutrition Facts panel.
Combine several ingredients into one meal
Open the Log tab and choose Build. Add each ingredient with a photo, nutrition label, barcode, AI description, or manual entry. Review portions and macros as you go, then tap Log Meal to create one combined entry on your timeline.
If you leave before logging, keep the draft and choose Build later to resume it. Discard the draft when you no longer need it.
Correct a detected item or portion
Whether you're reviewing a fresh photo or reopening a saved meal, tap an item to edit its name, quantity, or macros. Fixing portions is the quickest way to make a photo estimate match what you ate.
Delete an entry
On the Today tab, swipe the meal or activity row to reveal the delete action. Deleting removes it from your day and your totals.
Insights
What the energy curve (metabolic impact) means
The energy curve is an AI-assisted estimate of how a meal's mix of carbs, fiber, fat, and protein may release energy over the following hours. It's designed for planning and reflection — not blood-glucose measurement or medical use.
The glycemic impact, digestion, and satiety labels beside it are estimates from the same analysis.
Reading the daily energy view
The Today tab plots your meals and activities on a single timeline so you can see how your estimated energy rises and dips across the day. Tap into it for the detailed view, where you can pinch to zoom and inspect individual events.
Coach & Apple Health
Use the AI coach
Open the Coach tab and ask a question in plain language. With your permission, replies can draw on your logged meals, goals, coach memory, and relevant Apple Health context such as workouts, sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, and VO₂ max.
The coach needs AI processing consent — see below.
Connect Apple Health
Health access is optional and read-only. Open the Profile tab and tap Connect Apple Health, then choose what to share. If data looks missing later, you can review MacroMotive's permissions in the Health app under your profile, Apps and Services.
Manual meal logging and core nutrition features work fine without it.
Turn AI processing on or off
AI meal analysis and coaching require your consent. Open the Profile tab and find the AI processing section: tap Allow AI processing to turn it on, or Withdraw consent to turn AI features off without deleting your account.
